Craps betting options: How not to crap out

With table card games taking a while to beat the dealer and other players, as well as slot games now having multiple bonus rounds, casino dice games are highly favoured for their simple and quick gameplay. However, these benefits are also determining factors to why losses are prevalent in dice games. Although having a relatively small size, they are feared as much as loved by many gamblers.

While losses are common, you can prevent them by having a firm command over betting options and knowledge of the table. Care to test your skills? Let’s have a go in the king of dice games: craps. The goal is simple: wager on the outcome (sum) on a pair of dice rolls or a series of dice rolls. Guess it right, you win, but if not, then you lose.

Craps betting options

Below are five of the most popular types of craps bets. Before you learn them and bring them to Bitcasino, always bear in mind that numbers 2, 3, and 12 are bad, and thus you crap out.

  1. Pass line bet
  • Type of roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.41%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

You bet on the shooter to win or get a natural (dice lands on 7 or 11 on the come-out roll). If the dice lands on other numbers (except 2, 3, or 12), then your bet stays active until the shooter ends with either the point number or 7.

  1. Don’t pass line bet
  • Type of roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.36%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

This is the opposite of the first bet. Instead of wishing for a natural, you wager for the shooter to crap out or get either 2 or 3.

  1. The field bet
  • Type of roll: single-roll
  • House edge: 5.5%
  • Payout odds: 2:1 for numbers 2 and 12 and 1:1 for other numbers

Also known as the ‘self-service’ bet, you wager that one of the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 will show on the next roll.

  1. Any craps bet
  • Type of roll: Single-roll
  • House edge: 11.11%
  • Payout odds: 7:1

Similar to the ‘don’t pass line bet’ and ‘field bet’, you wager that the shooter’s next roll will land on any craps numbers.

  1. Big six, big eight
  • Type of roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 9%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

This betting type can be placed at any point of the game, but only if there is already a point number. You bet that the dice will land on any number between 6 or 8 before it does on a 7.

Live casino craps table etiquette

Playing craps in land-based casinos is typically loud and fun. Bettors and shooters get to sling around high-fives for every roll. While a few ‘yahoos’ can only be done from one screen to another, both land-based and online craps have etiquette rules for you to observe to blend right in at the table. Here are a few craps etiquette tips to apply when you play at Bitcasino.

  • Follow the dealer’s instructions
  • Join at the right time.
  • Place bets on time. Always remember that you’re in a casino, so time is money.
  • Don’t use the chat box for unpleasant remarks (i.e. blaming the dealer for your losses)
